I have never forgotten vocalist Iva Davies appearing to float across the stage as Icehouse began to play in their opening song to their gig at the Dunedin Town Hall on Wednesday 15th August '84. I actually thought I'd witnessed Iva Davies levitating on stage. I then thought hang on a minute what did I do with some friends before we entered the Town Hall that evening...? Then it clicked...Icehouse played an awesome gig that evening. It was the very first time I had seen them play live and they blew my mind. Icehouse was a new wave genre and in that they were ahead of their time back in this era of the '80s. I absolutely loved their music. I felt they were perhaps under rated to an extent. They were hamming it up with the rest of the western world's new wave bands and I believed they were just as good as New Order from England. Yep sir, easily.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the support act?
DeleteEr...not exactly...must have been a local act though?
DeleteThe concert in Hamilton was at Founders Theatre. Unsure of the supporting artist but Crash test dummies or similar rings a bell
ReplyDeleteMetropol and car crash set were support band if I remember correctly
DeleteI was there! Great gig, for years have been trying to remember the name of the venue as I knew it wasn't the Founders theatre. The Metropol, wow talk about blast from the past! Also remember a young Guy Pratt on bass before he went off to become famous and work with Madonna, Michael Jackson and more recently Pink Floyd
DeletePretty sure they played in Nelson at the Trafalgar Centre on this tour, the date was added later..
